As part of the activities commemorating the centenary of the Japanese immigration to Peru, the existing monument at Cerro Azul port, south of Lima, was remodeled. This was the place at which the last contingent of the first group of Japanese immigrants disembarked on April 3, 1899.
The rows of columns of the monument symbolizing the pioneers and their descendants also mark the location of the original dock and evoke the first steps taken by the pioneers upon their arrival in Peru. This monument was inaugurated on December 12, 1999.
