When plans were underway for the establishment of the Japanese School of Lima, a request was made to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Japan to send two teachers for the future school. Among several candidates, the Tokyo Board of Education selected Goro Yokose, age 24, as the first director of the school and his wife Haruko, age 21, as a teacher.
Their contract was for five years with a salary of 100 soles for the director and 60 soles for the teacher, in addition to 1,000 soles for traveling expenses. The Yokose couple arrived at Callao Port on May 15, 1920, aboard the Anyo Maru, after a 50-day journey from Yokohama Port.
