Welcoming Chief Priest Ohtani from Japan and taking a commemorative photo of affiliates and Buddhists of the Hilo Hongwanji Mission in front of the newly built main hall.
There were many devout Jodo Shinshu Buddhists in the Aki region of Hiroshima known as “Aki monto” (the Aki Faithful), and most of the immigrants from Hiroshima were Buddhists. Japanese language schools affiliated with missions were also established.
