Called “wata kontena (water container)”. A water carrier called “wata boy (water boy)” carried drinking water from a tank at the end of the cane field to fill laborers’ canteens.
Originally, glass bottles were used for carrying water. But Junzo Kurata, a first-generation immigrant from Hiroshima Prefecture in 1899, started a tinsmith and made cans for drinking water.
