It is estimated that in early 1994 there were more than 40,000 Peruvians in Japan among a total of 200,000 Latin American nikkei. Employed mainly in factories, the nikkei — like their ancestors who went to Peru — came to Japan in order to work, save and overcome economic difficulties.
