In April 1942 the Peruvian government began the deportation of Japanese citizens to concentration camps in the United States. Included in the deportees’ lists were names of diplomats, leaders, teachers, successful businesspeople, artisans, farmers, tailors and barbers, among others.
Between 1942 and 1945, 3000 Japanese, German and Italian citizens arrived at concentration camps in the United States. More than 70% of them were Japanese and their descendants.
