Cotton plantations

The great demand for cotton, which began during the First World War, raised the quotation of Peruvian cotton on the international market. This fact influenced on the decision by haciendas to substitute, in part, their sugarcane cultivations for cotton. Many of the Japanese immigrants worked on these plantations.
