Cerro Azul Port and Sakura Maru

7/25

The Sakura Maru carried the first 790 Japanese immigrants from Yokohama port to Peru. It arrived at Callao port on April 3, 1899, completing its journey at Cerro Azul port, in Cañete, where the last Japanese group who would work on the haciendas in Sur Chico (Little South) disembarked.

The historical vessel, Sakura Maru, years later was sunk during the war between Japan and the Russian Empire in 1905.
